Following on from the government’s classification announcements today, we can confirm that we are set at Tier 2 until at least 16th December. This means that all swimming, lessons, classes, bookings and the Fitness Suite will reopen from 7am Wednesday 2nd December, under the same COVID-19 preventative safety measures as before November Lockdown.

It is very important for the well-being of customers, staff and businesses that we all work together in the fight against this virus and continue to adhere to HANDS-FACE-SPACE and centre rules whilst on the premises.

NB. As the official reopening date has now changed, could all Wednesday groups and swimming lessons please note that your sessions will now recommence from Wednesday 2nd December. It would be a great help if you could assist us by contacting [email protected] by Saturday 28th November to let us know that you have read and noted this post on our website or Facebook page.

Many thanks, and we look forward to welcoming you back to MSC this winter!

In view of yesterday's government conference, in which they seemed to suggest that the Lockdown would now end a day early and organisations such as ours could re-open from Wednesday 2nd December, we are trying to get firm confirmation that this is so! So please watch this space, and we will confirm as soon as we can if we will be reopening a day earlier than originally planned.

Many thanks and stay safe, The MSC Team

In light of certain rumours which pertain to the government considering closing leisure facilities once again in January, the leisure industry is desperately fighting to stop this from happening and to get the government to re-classify gyms and swimming pools as essential services. Regular exercise has been rightly identified as vital in the fight against COVID-19 and other medical conditions, not only because of its benefits to physical health, but mental health as well. This is especially important in the winter months, particularly January, where exercising outdoors becomes much harder, and for some, just not feasible.

You can help in this fight by sending the below letter to your local MP (Anthony Browne for South Cambs - [email protected], Oliver Heald for North Herts - [email protected]). We thank you very much for your support of Melbourn Sports Centre, and hope we can help you stay fit and healthy this winter! The MSC Team

Good morning,

I am a constituent and writing to call for your support in the upcoming Westminster Hall Debate on 23rd November on the petition to keep gyms and leisure centres open during any further restrictions.

The physical activity sector has a hugely important role in the physical and mental wellbeing of your constituents as well as being crucial to the country’s recovery from Covid-19.

The Government has consistently stressed the importance of exercise throughout this pandemic, maintaining it as an essential reason to leave the house in the most severe lockdown, and continuing to stress its importance in this second phase. However, during the winter months outdoor activity becomes less appealing and more dangerous, making it imperative there is a safe space to exercise.

Sport England’s Active Lives Survey reported three million more inactive individuals in the first lockdown period compared to the same period in 2019. This number is likely to be even greater during the winter, with a devastating impact on health and wellbeing, if our facility is not able to reopen.

Gyms and leisure facilities have proven since reopening they are safe, with the hygiene, ventilation, and social distancing measures within facilities, drawn up in conjunction with the Government, have ensured this low prevalence rate. The Government has so far provided no evidence to justify the closure of these facilities.

With the prospect of continued restrictions on a national and local level for the foreseeable future, it is vital the physical activity sector is recognised as safe and essential, and is able to remain open.

I would urge you to ensure your constituents’ health and wellbeing are protected by attending Monday’s debate.

Best wishes

It is with disappointment and regret that after confirmation that leisure facilities will have to close, despite expectations that health facilities like ours would continue to provide sports and activities for the community, we must announce that as from Wednesday 4th November at 10pm, Melbourn Sports Centre will be closed until Wednesday 2nd December. We look forward to re-opening from Thursday 3rd and seeing you back supporting us, all being well!! In the meantime, stay safe and stay healthy. The MSC Team
